About The Position

Compass Health Center is seeking a highly motivated Safety & Emergency Preparedness Specialist to join our Facilities team. In this role, you will support Compass’s safety, emergency preparedness, and Environment of Care (EOC) programs across multiple locations. Reporting to the Associate Director of Facilities and Safety, the Safety & Emergency Preparedness Specialist plays a key role in training delivery, safety rounds, compliance support, emergency preparedness activities, and survey readiness efforts. This position helps ensure Compass environments are safe, compliant, and prepared so clinicians can focus on delivering exceptional patient care. This is a hybrid, Illinois-based role with regular travel to Compass Illinois locations and occasional national travel during special initiatives or site launches.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Emergency Management, Facilities Management, Training & Development, or a related field — or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of experience in safety coordination, Environment of Care, emergency preparedness, or related support roles
  • Strong written, verbal, and training facilitation skills
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and documentation
  • Comfortable learning and supporting safety, security, and facilities-related technologies
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Able to travel regularly to Illinois sites and occasionally nationwide
  • Valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting Environment of Care rounds, safety audits, or regulatory inspections
  • Experience coordinating emergency drills or tabletop exercises
  • Familiarity with Joint Commission, NFPA, OSHA, and life safety standards
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles or training development methodologies
  • Experience collaborating with IT or security teams on safety or security systems (e.g., access control, panic buttons, incident reporting platforms)

Responsibilities

  • Deliver in-person and virtual training on fire safety, evacuation procedures, hazard communication, workplace safety, life safety, incident reporting, and emergency response using approved materials
  • Coordinate scheduling and logistics for emergency drills and tabletop exercises in alignment with regulatory requirements
  • Support onboarding of Facilities and Operations staff by providing safety, systems, and operational procedure training
  • Maintain training records, attendance logs, and certification documentation
  • Collect participation data and feedback to support continuous improvement of safety programs
  • Participate in Environment of Care rounds, inspections, and safety assessments across Compass sites
  • Document safety risks, deficiencies, and observations and communicate findings to leadership
  • Track plans of correction and follow up with site leadership to support timely completion
  • Observe and report workplace safety practices, life safety conditions, and environmental risks
  • Support the development, review, and maintenance of emergency management plans, policies, and site-specific procedures
  • Provide coordination, documentation, and communication support during emergency situations
  • Assist with oversight of emergency equipment (fire extinguishers, alarms, emergency signage, panic buttons) and staff training
  • Maintain working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulations and standards (e.g., Joint Commission, NFPA, OSHA)
  • Assist with incident investigations and root cause analyses by gathering documentation and identifying gaps
  • Support survey readiness, audits, and regulatory inspections, including development and tracking of plans of correction
  • Serve as a resource for safety, EOC, emergency preparedness, and security-related questions
  • Provide regular updates and documentation to Facilities & Safety leadership
  • Collaborate with Facilities, Operations, HR, IT, and site leaders to support consistent safety and EOC practices across the organization
