About The Position

We are excited to invite a passionate and experienced Safety Aide to join our team! Homes for the Homeless (HFH) is searching for an experienced Safety Aide for our Families w/ Children facility located in the Jamaica area of Queens, NY. As a Safety Aide, you will play a pivotal role in our organization, working within the security department, but collaborating with other units to ensure the safety and comfort of the families we serve. Safety Aides are required to have a current NYS Security License at time of hire. This position requires possession of an FDNY Certificate of Fitness (F-02 Fire Guard for Shelters). Families can make the most of their stay through accessing an array of onsite programs. Many of these programs are also available to people living in the local community. Requirements

  • Valid NYS Security Guard License.
  • Current 8-hour certificate.
  • 16-hour certificate.
  • F-02 (Certificate of Fitness for Fire Guard for Shelters). F-02 must be obtained within 60 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • F-80 (Certificate of Fitness for Coordinator of Fire Safety and Alarm Systems in Homeless Shelters) is a plus.
  • Welcomed - T89 (Certificate of Fitness for Fire Life and Safety Director).

Responsibilities

  • Patrol interior and exterior areas of building.
  • Monitor the entry and exit of residents by maintaining a sign-in log and requiring identification.
  • Enforce rules and regulations.
  • Prepare incident reports or maintenance tickets on hazardous or dangerous conditions.
  • Learn the fire safety plan and evacuation procedures and assist in fire drills.
  • Prepare and assist in hazardous situations in the facility.
  • Intervene in incidents and assist in emergencies throughout the building.
  • Must be attentive to their post and could be standing for hours throughout their shift.
  • Assist in emergency building situations (e.g. shovel snow, clean up a spill, etc.)
  • Mandatory overtime which can include working a full double shift.
