About The Position

SMG seeks a local Safety Advisor – Construction in Austin, Texas The key function of a Safety Advisor is to put safety at the forefront of their job, prioritize the client’s needs, work well in a team setting, be self-managed, and be flexible when it comes to change and travel. The Associate in this role will work in a construction environment. This person will be responsible for working with multiple clients/projects around the Austin area and parts of Texas. Projects may include commercial/industrial construction safety oversight, airports, conduct trainings, etc.

Requirements

  • Five plus years of construction safety experience
  • Experience reviewing safety programs and running reports
  • BSCP Cert preferred - CSP, CHST, STSC, etc.
  • An Associates degree or higher in safety or related fields is preferred
  • First-aid/CPR certification from the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association
  • OSHA 30-hr Construction
  • First Aid/CPR
  • Moving about long distances
  • Ascending/Descending stairs and ladders
  • Remaining in a stationary position for a prolonged period
  • Working in extreme weather
  • Being exposed to loud noises
  • Wearing personal protective gear correctly

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience consulting in construction safety is preferred
  • BSCP Cert preferred - CSP, CHST, STSC, etc.
  • An Associates degree or higher in safety or related fields is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Travel to different job sites and work with multiple clients
  • Site safety observations, including documentation of findings
  • Review site specific safety documents
  • Assess and evaluate adequacy of safety programs
  • Conduct and lead safety meetings
  • Develop and deliver, presentations, data collection
  • Must be able to create reports, run safety metrics, and use other software programs
  • Conduct Job Hazard Analysis
  • Conduct trainings
  • Verify compliance with safety policies and procedures as required by law, the Owner, and contractors
  • Provides incident management and support
  • Documentation and Report preparation
  • Conducts Contractor program reviews
