Develops, implements, and coordinates safety and health activities, programs and training in a manufacturing environment to maintain and enforce compliance focusing on employee safety. Requirements

  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) with a minimum of five years relevant experience in health and safety field; or a combination of related higher education and experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Safety Professional, OSHA 10 hour Class Instructor or other industry related certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Follows all company Policies and Procedures, Management Systems (OHSMS, QMS, & EMS), Kawasaki Production System (KPS) and other legal and compliance regulations that may apply.
  • Maintain OSHA 300 Log; provide requested Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) data as requested and maintenance of required annual OSHA compliance postings.
  • Recommend measures to help protect workers for potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.
  • Order suspension of activities that pose threats to workers' health and safety.
  • Investigate incidents to identify causes and to determine corrective actions that would prevent future incidents.
  • Inspect and/or evaluate workplace environments, equipment, or practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations.
  • Collaborate with Safety Engineer, Production Engineering, Environmental Engineer and Occupational Health Nurse to institute control or remedial measures for hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions or equipment.
  • Maintain hygiene programs, such as noise surveys and other industrial hygiene monitoring, by scheduling and placing monitors on individuals.
  • Coordinate "right-to-know" programs regarding hazardous chemicals or other substances.
  • Conduct safety training or education programs and demonstrate the use of safety equipment.
  • Document data to be able to track, analyze and report on corrective action progress, root cause, incident trends in injuries, illnesses, accidents, or other hazards.
  • Maintain and update emergency response plan or procedures.
  • Plan and coordinate emergency response drills and after action follow-ups.
  • Provide new-employee health and safety orientations and develop and/or approve material for these presentations.
  • Perform or coordinate the documented inspection of specified areas to ensure the presence of fire prevention equipment, safety systems, PPE and other required safety items.
  • Develop, maintain and/or document required medical monitoring programs for employees. (i.e. Coordinating Annual Audiometric Testing of required employees)
  • Train, coordinate and document training of new Supervisors/Management on Kawasaki Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) and Emergency Response Plan (ERP) to ensure processes are followed.
  • Conduct and/or coordinate First Aid, CPR and AED training to ensure all required individuals are trained (i.e. emergency response personnel, arc flash authorized individuals, and management)
  • Conduct and /or coordinate Fire Prevention training.
  • Develop and/or coordinate Contractor Safety Program to ensure timely communication with Contractors to obtain "approved" status to reduce liability risks.
