The Safe Patient Mobility Coordinator participates in the development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of education programs/projects related to Safe Patient Handling and Mobility (SPHM) initiatives. The Mobility Coordinator works with patient handling and nursing staff to implement and ensure the appropriate lifting techniques and equipment for patients are being utilized. Provides education that is consistent with appropriate California legislative code(s) and other regulations for safe patient handling, The Plan for Provision of Patient Care, CSMH Code of Conduct, the Performance Improvement Plan, the Patient Education Plan and professional organization standards. They are responsible for teaching the staff competency skills in SPHM. Identifies safety concerns and institutes measures to provide a safe environment.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes a systematic approach to assess educational needs in collaboration with the nursing department as it relates to safe patient handling and mobility program. Evaluates the effectiveness and efficiency of educational programs.
  • Assists with Implementation and evaluation the education programs/projects related to Safe Patient Handling and Mobility (SPHM) initiatives and offers recommendations for improvement as needed.
  • Provides training, instruction, and informal supervision of clinical staff on proper body mechanic and appropriate use of SPHM equipment.
  • Assists Program Manager with assessments focusing on both long-term and short-term needs and strengths of the SPHM program. Reports the needs of the program and/or the staff with the intent of providing a recommendation for the type, length, and frequency of support necessary to meet identified needs. Prepares and maintains reports and records of this data.
  • Compiles educational materials and supportive documents.
  • Identifies safety concerns to unit-based leadership and Program Manager to support a safe environment.
  • Works with the nursing staff to provide and ensure the appropriate lifting techniques and machinery, for patients are being utilized.
  • Markets safe patient handling training and education to the CSMH in house clinical staff.
