About The Position

The Link works with youth and young families to overcome the impacts of poverty and social injustice. Our 23 programs provide supportive housing, intensive case management services, and skills development to youth at risk of or experiencing homelessness, sex trafficking and/or involvement in the juvenile justice system. The Link prides itself on its innovative, youth-centered, strengths-based programming for youth and families as well as programs that are co-designed, implemented and overseen by youth. The Link has a variety of specialized services including emergency shelter and housing for youth who have experienced sexual exploitation. The main responsibilities of the Safe Harbor Street Outreach Worker position will be to provide outreach (both street and site based) to youth who are at high risk or who have experienced sexual exploitation. Outreach includes providing support, crisis intervention, assistance and connection with resources and at times transportation This position will be considered a mobile one that will be housed within The Link but will spend time at multiple community sites in order to accommodate the needs of sexually exploited youth within the West Metro area. The target focus of this street outreach position will be north Minneapolis with additional neighborhoods as identified by youth who have been sexually exploited.

Requirements

  • High level of personal and professional integrity, including ability to protect and maintain confidentiality and data privacy
  • Knowledge of commercial sexual exploitation of minors
  • Creative and able to engage a diverse range of needs and learning styles
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively across many systems and stakeholders
  • Ability to work effectively with and relate to diverse populations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially for client advocacy
  • Ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently organize, coordinate, track and complete multiple tasks as well as adjust to changing priorities
  • Computer application proficiency, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
  • Schedule is based on meeting the needs of program but will largely be Monday through Friday with some regular evening hours
  • At least two years of experience working with sexually exploited youth or an at-risk population
  • Training in positive youth development, harm reduction, and/or trauma informed care
  • Knowledge of issues related to sex trafficking, comprehensive programming, child welfare, juvenile justice, and court systems
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Valid Drivers License and ability to pass a driving and criminal background check

  • Life Experience (Survivors) and/or other relevant education including social service or social work, human services or other related degrees

Responsibilities

  • Build Network of Collaborative Service Partners:
  • Build relationships with law enforcement, child welfare, juvenile justice, runaway and homeless youth service providers and other stakeholders across the West Metro and especially within north Minneapolis.
  • Help partner with community stakeholders to provide connections to services, shelter and housing for youth experiencing homelessness.
  • Be an active member of the Avenues and StreetWorks Collaborative-participate in their training curriculum, provide data and reports as needed and attend Avenues and StreetWorks meetings.
  • Conduct Street and Site Based Outreach:
  • Provide street outreach in neighborhoods (primarily in north Minneapolis) where youth who are being sexually exploited and/or who are high risk tend to congregate.
  • Build positive and caring relationships with youth, provide them with basic needs supplies, crisis intervention as needed and assist them with accessing longer term services.
  • Reporting:
  • Track data and outcomes as required by The Link and our funders and work with program management to complete reports on time.
