About The Position

The Sacramento Regional Public Safety Training Center Coordinator is responsible for coordinating instructional programs and teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean. The role involves helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content, assessing student learning outcomes, and maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in their teaching field. The coordinator will also engage in continuing professional development, utilize current technology in job performance, and maintain professional conduct and ethics. Additional responsibilities include assisting with articulation and curriculum development, serving on college committees, and fulfilling other duties as assigned by the area dean. The position may involve an instructional/coordinator split assignment.

Requirements

  • Have a bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience in the subject matter area to be taught; OR have an associate's degree and six years of professional experience in the subject matter area to be taught; OR the equivalent.
  • Have 2 years peace officer first-level supervisory experience.
  • Possess a POST Basic Certificate, the Intermediate Certificate, and meet the required training, education, or college degree with law enforcement experience.
  • Have at least 60 semester units, two years of supervisory experience, and completion of the POST Supervisory Course for the Supervisory Certificate.
  • Have an equity-minded focus and sensitivity to diverse backgrounds of community college students.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in curriculum development and review.
  • Familiarity with the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) requirements.
  • Experience in teaching or training in a law enforcement or public safety context.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Associate Dean/Academy Director in the development, certification, evaluation, and implementation of the POST Regular Basic Course.
  • Orient new instructors to their assignments and obligations.
  • Create, update, and submit course information and scheduling within POST's Electronic Data Interchange.
  • Review, develop, revise, and improve curricula.
  • Assist in the recruitment, screening, selecting, and reviewing of suitable instructors.
  • Prepare, review, and track the testing procedure for all students.
  • Conduct program/course evaluations and provide performance ratings.
  • Teach courses in all levels of Public Safety at the college.
