About The Position

Southern Inyo Healthcare District is now accepting applications for our Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) Class. Applicants must be over 18 and have a High School Diploma/Equivalent, pass a background check, COVID-19 test, drug test, and a physical prior to the start of class. Course Description: This course develops the skills necessary to pass the state-mandated test to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Topics include legal and ethical responsibilities, bedside care, moving and positioning a resident, general observations of a resident's condition, and responsibilities related to care of the long-term care resident. Practical bedside skills will be practiced by the student in the nursing skills lab. The student gains clinical experience in our skilled nursing facility. The student must pass the course with a grade of "C" or better to be eligible to take the California CNA exam. The CNA student is required to complete the following prior to clinical rotations: physical, questionnaire, TB screening, confirm immunization, background check, and drug screening. The student is required to complete a Live Scan and application for the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) upon enrollment into this course. Program Length: 5 Weeks @ 40 hours per week. Student Responsibilities: Students will be dropped from the course for non-attendance, this is an accelerated course which does not allow for excessive absences. You are provided with three "make up days" which can be done to ensure you have the 160-hour minimum requirement for this course. Uniforms will need to be ordered within the first week for when students begin working with residents in skilled nursing. It is recommended to order at least 2 sets of scrub attire (3 recommended). You will need the following: scrubs in navy blue color to identify you as a student, wear closed toed non-slip shoes and bring a watch with a second hand. Excessive phone use without proper reason will not be tolerated, please be responsible. Please see instructor for special circumstance require cell phone use. While is is the final responsibility of the student to drop a class that she/he is no longer attending, instructors may at their discretion drop students without consultation with the student when unexcused absences number (3) or the equivalent of 24 hours. Students will be assigned the appropriate letter grade. Students will participate at least five times a week with active participation including but not limited to: completing assignments, discussion questions, taking quizzes and exams, skills lab, and floor training. Students who are not actively participating in the course can be dropped at the instructor's discretion. Please that that this class act's as a kind of preemployment interview for this facility, you are being compensated for your time and should be treat this program as a job. Student Conduct: The district expects students to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the educational purposes of the course. Student conduct should reflect consideration for the rights of others, and students are expected to cooperate with all member of the community. Students are expected to adhere to Southern Inyo Healthcare Dress code policies. Avoid low cut shirts, shorts that show too much cheek, and conceal/ear undergarments. Scrubs are expected to be worn when direct patient care is being provided. Grading: 93-100% A, 84-92% B, 78-83% C, <77% F No Credit will be given to late assignments.
