This announcement is for current Correctional Lieutenants with the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry only.  #1 SPECIAL SELECTION FACTOR(S)-THE FOLLOWING IS REQUIRED:  Employees must currently be a Correctional Lieutenant with Arizona Department of Corrections Rehabilitation & Reentry and received at least a meets expectations  overall rating on most recent performance evaluation.  Requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.) The ideal candidate will have public speaking, oral presentation, customer service, recruitment experience and computer experience. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 12 months experience as a Correctional Lieutenant with the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry.

Requirements

  • Employees must currently be a Correctional Lieutenant with Arizona Department of Corrections Rehabilitation & Reentry and received at least a meets expectations  overall rating on most recent performance evaluation.
  • Requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.)
  • Knowledge of; methods and practices of safety, security, custody and discipline of a correctional unit; Federal, State and agency laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures governing the custody and control of inmate populations; Federal, State and agency laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures governing the management of employees; methods and techniques of management and supervision; methods and techniques of paraprofessional counseling as applied within the rehabilitative programs of the unit; methods and techniques of training staff in the security practices and procedures; rules and policies governing classification, discipline and due process of the inmate populations; methods and techniques of performing the administrative work appropriate to the assignment; techniques and practice of security procedures, order and discipline as applied to inmates; portable and stationary two-way radio systems used to communicate inside/outside an institution or the network with other institutions; use of self-defense, weapons and related defense and control equipment; policies and procedures of a corrections work setting, Federal and State policies and procedures regarding emergency response.

  • Represent ADCRR in a professional manner, conduct evaluations and make oral presentations to groups
  • Establish and maintain the prescribed security, custody, order and discipline programs of the unit; apply and interpret the Federal and State laws, agency rules, regulations, policies and procedures governing custody and control of inmates; apply methods and techniques of management and supervision; apply and train in the methods and techniques of paraprofessional counseling and crisis intervention of inmates; apply and interpret the communications as required by the duties and assignments in a correctional setting; interpersonal relationships within a correctional setting; maintain a calm and professional temperament during emergency situations; perform administrative work activities appropriate to the assignment.

Responsibilities

  • Recruits qualified applicants for the position of Correctional Officer within the Arizona Department of Corrections Rehabilitation and Reentry (ADCRR) in accordance with the established policies and procedures
  • provides information to candidates, processes applications and conducts testing in a timely and professional manner
  • Coordinates activities in the community to include community visits to various employment departments, educational institutions and other areas to attract potential applications
  • Supervise Correctional Sergeants and train staff, complete daily, weekly and monthly reports
  • Attends required training
  • Required to drive on State business
  • Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment
