The position involves teaching pupils with disabilities in the classroom, utilizing state-adopted standards and the District curriculum approved by the Board of Trustees. The teacher is responsible for preparing lesson plans that cater to the diverse needs of students, providing an instructional program across all core curriculum areas, and collaborating with parents to develop Individualized Education Plans (I.E.P.s) that set both short-term and long-term goals. The role also includes assessing students' academic achievements, holding required meetings, and completing necessary documentation. Participation in collaboration and developmental programs within the school is expected, along with providing support to classroom teachers regarding students' impairments and suggesting appropriate classroom activities. The teacher will meet with students with moderate to severe impairments on a scheduled basis for individual or small group instruction, consult with the school nurse and psychologist for students with severe handicaps, and maintain professional competence through in-service education activities. Additionally, the teacher will participate in faculty meetings, maintain current student files, monitor pupil progress, create a conducive learning environment, identify pupil needs, supervise students during activities, and establish behavior standards.
