General Description: Under general supervision, administers therapeutic treatments prescribed by attending medical staff. Records treatment information and patient’s treatment response in the medical record. Manages and maintains life support equipment. Essential Responsibilities: Responsibilities listed in this section are core to the position. Apply knowledge of the scientific principles underlying cardiopulmonary physiology and pathophysiology as well as biomedical engineering and technology Cardiopulmonary deficiencies. Respiratory Care is practiced under medical direction across the health care continuum. Respiratory therapists will effectively offer preventative care to, as well as assess, educate, and treat patients with cardiopulmonary deficiencies. Develop and implement effective care plans, patient-driven protocols, disease-based clinical pathways and disease management. Provides Respiratory Care using a Family Centered Approach. Assesses individualized patient cardiopulmonary needs and communicates them to the care team. Embraces the interdisciplinary care model and stays aware of changes. Participates in data collection or auditing. Represents staff at relevant staff meetings, reporting and updating current staff General Responsibilities: Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree (or higher) from an accredited Respiratory Care Program.
  • Level I: 0-3 years of experience
  • Level II: 3-5 years of experience
  • Level III: At least 5 years of experience.
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential issued from National Board of Respiratory Care within 90 days of hire (Level I).
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential issued from National Board of Respiratory Care within one year of hire (Level I).
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential issued from National Board of Respiratory Care (Level II & III).
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) issued from Oklahoma State Medical Board
  • Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (American Heart Association) within 3 months of hire (Level I).
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (American Heart Association) (Level II & III)
  • Oklahoma University Medical Center and OU Health Edmond - Adult Critical Care Specialty (ACCS) through the National Board for Respiratory Care (Level III)
