This position is responsible for following approved procedures, for the start-up, shutdown, normal operations, monitoring, servicing, and maintenance of all equipment and systems at the Dual Fuel Generating Facility. Must be familiar with emergency procedures to follow during periods of abnormal operation. Accountable for adhering to all location safety, environmental and regulatory procedures. Performs maintenance of plant equipment; troubleshoots, repairs, and calibrates equipment. Position must monitor equipment performance through test, analysis, and report variances. The technician will be expected to follow the Operations training program to become qualified as an auxiliary operator and obtain certification as a multi-skilled craftsperson. The technician will be expected to fill the role of an on-shift operator on a periodic basis.

  • Perform electrical maintenance activities on powerhouse equipment, such as motors, breakers, transformers, electrical relays, switchyards, contactors, etc.
  • Perform troubleshooting and repair on instrumentation and control systems.
  • Perform electrical troubleshooting and repair on systems and equipment.
  • Perform some level of mechanical maintenance on powerhouse equipment, such as natural gas burning system, boilers, turbines, air compressors, fans, coal pulverizers, pumps, ash handling equipment, etc.
  • Utilize computers and/or tablets to perform basic functions such as timesheet entry, complete computer-based training modules, read company email, closeout work orders in Maximo, etc.
  • Check and monitor plant equipment and systems daily to ensure proper operation and detect problems as they occur.
  • Serve as a member of station emergency response teams, including Incipient Fire Brigade, Confined Space, Rescue, Hazmat, and First Responder.
  • High school diploma, or GED
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to pass respiratory physical and wear all personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to undergo training and participate in specialty team training, including incipient Fire Brigade, Confined Space, Rescue, Hazmat & First Responder.
  • Ability to attend various training classes and successfully complete an employee development and qualifications program (EDQP).
  • Successful completion of EEI's Plant Operator Selection System (POSS) and/or Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS).
  • Associate's degree in electrical / electronics is preferred
  • Experience and/or training with PLCs and DCS (preferably Allen Bradley PLCs and Emerson Ovation DCS.)
  • Experience with smart transmitters and VFDs.
  • Experience with HVAC troubleshooting and repair, licensed HVAC technician.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to monitor and troubleshoot equipment in fluid system operation (pumps, valves, boilers, etc.)
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and work independently without the need of close supervision but can also function well in a team environment.
