The Routing and Siting Specialist plays a key role in balancing technical, environmental, and social factors to determine appropriate locations for infrastructure projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, natural resource management, geography, engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional routing and siting experience (preferably in consulting).
  • Experience with electric utility permitting processes (application development, information requests, hearing support) would be considered an asset.
  • Professional experience with ESRI mapping systems.
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local routing and NEPA regulations.
  • Ability to coordinate with various regulatory bodies and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to think critically and effectively problem-solve.
  • Data interpretation and analysis.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills – data collection and interpretation, technical report writing, client communications, etc.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to commit to and meet deadlines.
  • Experience in impact assessment inputs would be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and evaluate potential routes or sites for projects, considering factors such as land use, environmental sensitivity, and proximity to existing infrastructure.
  • Ensure that proposed sites and routes comply with environmental laws, local regulations, and land-use policies, including NEPA, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Collaborate with landowners, government agencies, environmental groups, and the public to gather input and address concerns during the planning process.
  • Use GIS and other mapping tools to analyze geographical data, evaluate terrain, and assess land conditions for potential projects.
  • Develop strategies to minimize the environmental and social impacts of the selected route or site, including avoiding sensitive habitats or cultural sites.
  • Work closely with engineers, environmental planners, and regulatory bodies to integrate routing and siting considerations into the overall project plan.
  • Perform other duties as required.
