About The Position

Our team is committed to safety, professionalism, and operational excellence. The Route Operations Specialist plays a vital role in supporting autonomous vehicle (AV) operations by ensuring that travel routes are safe, compliant with operational standards, and suitable for testing and deployment. This role involves monitoring road conditions, communicating potential risks to the AV team, and assisting in emergency response, directly contributing to the safe and efficient operation of AVs. Success in this role requires strong situational awareness, proactive problem-solving, and clear communication. Route Operations Specialists are essential to the AV testing process, helping to identify, document, and mitigate risks before they impact vehicle performance or safety. Key responsibilities include inspecting and maintaining AV routes, identifying and reporting hazards, monitoring traffic and environmental conditions, supporting emergency response procedures, completing route feedback documentation, applying lessons learned from debriefs, and performing other duties as assigned to ensure safe and efficient AV operations. Requirements

  • Valid C driver’s license with a clean driving record required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional driving experience preferred.
  • Experience in transportation, logistics, or AV operations preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED required; additional technical or vocational training preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify hazards and respond safely in dynamic traffic environments.
  • Strong situational awareness and hazard recognition abilities.
  • Ability to operate a vehicle safely and navigate variable road and environmental conditions.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills for reporting hazards and providing operational feedback.
  • Proficiency with mobile devices and applications for logging observations and communicating with team members.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing conditions and respond effectively in dynamic environments.
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and able to work independently while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Ability to collaborate with field teams and follow operational protocols consistently.
  • Capacity to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including field, remote, and technical personnel.
  • Willingness to work varying shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and extended operations.
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods while operating or monitoring vehicles.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and perform repeated movements during inspections and route monitoring.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry items as required by operational duties.
  • Ability to perform vehicle inspections, including stooping, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Work may involve exposure to varying environmental conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.
  • Manual dexterity, vision, and hearing sufficient to operate vehicles and communication devices safely.
  • Ability to remain alert and focused during long periods of driving, monitoring, or remote supervision.
  • Must be 21 years old;
  • Must be able to sit or drive for extended periods while monitoring routes.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach when inspecting roads and removing hazards.
  • Manual dexterity, vision, and hearing sufficient to operate a vehicle and detect potential hazards.
  • Work may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or outdoor environments.
  • Ability to remain alert and focused for extended periods during route monitoring.
  • Be eligible to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship now or in the future (if based in the U.S.).
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and maintain road conditions along assigned AV routes.
  • Identify, report, and remove potential hazards that could impact AV operations.
  • Continuously monitor surrounding traffic and environmental conditions, communicating potential risks to the AV team.
  • Support emergency response procedures and contribute to maintaining safe testing conditions.
  • Complete and submit Scout Feedback Forms after each route to document conditions, hazards, and operational observations.
  • Follow established protocols to proactively improve safety and operational performance.
  • Apply feedback from debriefs and post-route reviews to enhance route monitoring practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support safe and efficient AV operations.
