About The Position

Gold Medal Bakery is a fourth-generation family-owned industrial bakery that operates around the clock to provide fresh-baked goods to area food stores, restaurants, and institutions in New England and beyond. SUMMARY Responsible for operating 26’ box truck on an established run in a safe and efficient manner according to DOT Standards and Company policy and procedures. Transports bakery products to customer locations and/or other locations on time as controlled by the delivery schedule. Handles a variety of products on racks and baskets, while always keeping product orderly and sanitary, and paying particular attention to maintaining highest degree of food quality and personal and food safety. Verifies load counts and records load information on forms/devices as required. Prepares record of safety inspections, accurate log book postings, requests for repairs needed, and any other company, federal and state mandated recordkeeping requirements as instructed.

Requirements

  • Work requires a high school level of knowledge of several subjects in order to perform calculations, prepare reports, keep records and/or deal effectively with other people.
  • Must possess and maintain an up-to-date state license, with acceptable driving record, and abide by all DOT, state and federal governmental licensure regulations and requirements (i.e. medical card and substance use testing, etc.).
  • Adaptability to night driving in varying road weather conditions is required.
  • Some analytical ability is required in order to gather and interpret data in situations in which the problems are somewhat complex.
  • Driving and making deliveries are done with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision is required.
  • Independent judgment is required in driving.
  • Must have the ability to communicate with customers, company supervision and state highway personnel.
  • Responsible for own work only.
  • This position functions as a one-person assignment with total accountability for delivery performance.
  • Must be able to exert up to 34 foot pounds of initial force to move a rack.
  • Loads empty racks.
  • Operates a 26’ box truck safely on city streets, expressways, and/or rural highways in varying weather conditions.
  • Mental and visual ability required to identify numerous varieties of product.
  • Visual requirements as normally required for vehicle drivers to DOT Standards.
  • Must be able to do basic math calculations to count add, subtract, multiply and divide.
  • Perception required to place and arrange product and drive a vehicle.
  • Must be able to physically move in and out of a 26’ box truck and push and/or pull product on docks, ramps and aisle ways.
  • Physical activities required are sitting while driving, standing, walking, crouching, climbing, reaching to height of seven (7) feet, twisting, stooping, lifting, carrying, grasping, balancing to complete assigned job tasks.
  • Ability to clearly hear and talk is necessary for safe driving and communication with customers and/or other employees.
  • Must be capable of understanding instructions and reading information, vehicle instrument panel, notices and work schedules.
  • Memory skill required for recall of product, location and schedule.
  • Must be able to keep a running count of one item when sorting, staging, stacking, etc.
  • Must be able to work courteously and effectively with others, and to assist co-workers as required.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers bakery products to customer locations and other company facilities.
  • Counts and verifies load.
  • Unloads truck and loads empty racks, trays and/or baskets.
  • Breaks down stacks of bakery products as required.
  • Responsible for ensuring that load is secure.
  • Makes all runs as established by the delivery procedure unless a change is approved by supervision.
  • Completes daily trip report and/or logbook, and turns in each day.
  • Reports any product overage or shortage to supervision.
  • Marks up damaged equipment for repair or disposal.
  • Consolidates trays of product on racks at each stop and removes empty racks from store.
  • Performs prescribed safety checks of vehicle prior to each run and writes notation of any defects on forms provided.
  • Keeps interior of truck/trailer clean and neat for carrying food products.
  • Promotes general goodwill and a reputation for excellent service among all customers and the general public.
  • Drives courteously and safely to display company logo in a positive manner.
  • Maintains correct and safe driving habits to company standards.
  • Fuels vehicles as needed or requested.
  • Records mileage, gas and oil use statistics using appropriate forms or devices provided.
  • Maintains clean and neat personal appearance.
  • Attends all company safety meetings.
  • Trains/retrains as required by company training guidelines (i.e. annual GMPT).
  • During periods of unworked time or downtime, is required to accomplish any task that is assigned by Supervisor.
  • Notifies supervision of any equipment problems or safety hazards.
  • Keeps area of assigned work neat and clean.
  • Assists other employees when possible, working as a team member.
  • Must not change job procedures without authorization from supervision.
  • Performs all other related assignments and training of other employees as required by Supervision.
  • Always operates according to company core values of caring, commitment, and integrity.
  • Every employee is responsible for ensuring the highest degree of food safety and producing a quality product by following the standard operating procedures and adhering to the quality control standards.
  • Anything which negatively affects or potentially affects the quality of the product (including damaged or inferior ingredients and produced product) must immediately be resolved by the employee or brought to the attention of a Supervisor.
