About The Position

Guide a High-Performance Machining Team Restoring Industrial Pumps Hydro, Inc.—a global leader in independent pump reengineering and the largest pump rebuilder since 1969—seeks a Rotating Equipment Machining Foreman to lead the 2nd shift (2:30 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.) at our Aftermarket Pump Repair Shop in Chicago’s West Loop. What You’ll Do Lead and coordinate shop-floor operations for machinists, mechanics, and welders to meet or exceed production, quality, and delivery targets. Control and monitor work across in-house departments: machining, assembly, inspection, and weld shop. Provide daily updates to the Shop Manager; ensure smooth handoff of in-process work to the next shift supervisor. Interpret and explain detailed blueprints; confirm scope-of-work alignment with customer requirements and job status reports. Engage Engineers for technical input and resolution of shop issues. Drive on-time delivery by working to preset dates and tracking progress. Procure the correct materials via Purchasing and verify on-site availability before jobs start. Champion safety—adhere to and train others on company safety guidelines. Organize and staff emergency weekend jobs when required. Perform hands-on machining and tooling when needed; apply prior manual machining experience on large, refurbished parts on horizontal and vertical boring machines. Operate manual, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electric tools; safely use fork trucks and overhead cranes. Manage multiple projects simultaneously; solve repair challenges while modeling strong leadership. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Supervisor with 5+ years leading machinists/mechanics in an industrial aftermarket environment.
  • Employee-centered leader with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experienced in manual machining; adept with HBM/VBM work on large components.
  • Calm under pressure; skilled at prioritizing tight deadlines in a fast-paced shop.
  • Strong math and print-reading abilities; proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • ERP experience is a plus.
  • Background in an equipment repair shop—ideally pumps or power generation.
  • Basic manual machining and welding foundation.
  • At least 5 years of supervisory experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree or higher preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience considered.
  • 10+ years hands-on job shop repair, assembly, and disassembly of pumps, valves, and other rotating equipment.
  • 5+ years in a team lead or supervisory capacity.
  • Millwright mechanic or formal technical training/trade school or multi-year apprenticeship.
  • Ability to work shift work and overtime as required.
  • Computer literacy to operate a computer-based maintenance system.
  • 5+ years of machining and tooling experience in a custom machine shop (desired).
  • Knowledge of working with electric motors.
  • Journeyman or U.S. Military experience desired.
