About The Position

Helpline Youth Counseling (HYC), a nonprofit agency has been providing youth services in Southeast Los Angeles County since 1971 with a primary purpose of providing therapeutic counseling and assistance to at-risk, low-income children, youth and their families. Mission The mission of Helpline Youth Counseling (HYC) is to help build individual, family, and community health, well-being, prosperity, and equity. HYC serves clients and community members with trauma-informed, strength-based prevention, early intervention, education, and treatment services. Duties and Responsibilities: In collaboration with the Dream Resource Centers operated by Helpline Youth Counseling, Inc., in various school campuses (Inglewood United, La Puente High School and Norwalk High School), the Ambassador will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the program's Prevention and Intervention efforts. Under the direct supervision of the Manager of Youth Services, the Ambassador will/be: Responsible to collaborate with the Department of Youth Development (DYD) and LA County schools (Norwalk High School, Inglewood United or La Puente High School) to deliver school-based programming through the implementation of the School-Based Program Initiative (SBPI) model. Responsible for providing programming and services daily whenever the school is in session. Support to the Dream Resource Center's operations, programs, supporting the growth of a youth development framework grounded on trauma-informed care, restorative justice, culturally responsive practices and strength-based intervention. Collaborate closely with school administrators, faculty, student support teams, and community partners to ensure services are coordinated, accessible and aligned with school priorities. Responsible to provide direct service provision through the delivery of the following program elements: Conflict Resolution and De-escalation, Mediation Services, Skills Training, Restorative Practices, Youth Development and Wellness Services, Mental Health Support, Family and Community Engagement and Support, Outreach Events. Responsible for developing educational workshops, coordinating outreach events, family and community engagement support and activities for the assigned school campus. Provide a safe inclusive space for students who are at risk of suspension, expulsion, citation and chronic absenteeism, juvenile justice system impacted, at risk of dropping out of school because they are involved with the child welfare or juvenile justice systems, youth that have been previously suspended, expelled, and/or is disengaged from school, youth experiencing homelessness or youth that may be at risk of experiencing homelessness. Responsible for developing, creating and disseminating educational information to school campus administrators, students, and community members. Build the capacity of students and effectively increase stability, wellness, and success of students on campus through Responsible for full implementation of Program's Goals and Objectives. Responsible for attending community partner meetings and training. Responsible for helping network and promote the Dream Resource Center and Program event and activities. Responsible for implementing a process that will ensure proper documentation. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelors' degree in Social Services or a related field preferred.
  • Experience in working with at-promise youth at risk of suspension, expulsion, citation, chronic absenteeism, those impacted by the juvenile justice system, at risk of dropping out or experiencing homelessness or housing instability.
  • Experience in networking with schools, municipalities, and community agencies in providing youth services programs.
  • Experience in leading, facilitating, engaging and/or organizing community members, businesses, and community leaders in the implementation/adoption of a community and/or population-based effort.
  • Ability to work on a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Must be able/willing to travel as a position requires cross-collaboration partnerships, Trainings, and Meetings across LA County.
  • Superb planning and organizational skills with a proven track record for strategic planning and execution.
  • Experience in leading, facilitating, engaging, and/or organizing youth activities.
  • Strong relationship building/maintaining, networking skills, and great organizational skills.
  • Must demonstrate a strong commitment to the school's mission and be willing to work diligently, even on non-observed days, to ensure the continuous improvement and success of our educational community.
  • Competency to work with the various ethnic/cultural groups.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in written form as well as verbally.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to pass background checks and criminal clearance.
  • Valid California driver's license, current auto insurance, a good driving record, and must be cleared to drive for business purposes by our insurance broker.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with justice impacted youth both individually and group settings
  • Experience working with community-based organizations and school districts.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is highly desired.
