Roofers will set up ladders and safety equipment according to OSHA guidelines. The roof will be inspected for existing damage and safety hazards. The roofers will load roofing materials and equipment onto the roof using cranes, forklifts, and A frame hand hoists. The roofers will ensure that all materials and equipment are safely stored and secured. Roofers will recover or remove the existing roof using power cutters, tear off machines and hand tools. Roofing tear off will be transported off the roof by wheelbarrows and material carts that are emptied into trash chutes. The roof deck will be swept and inspected for any damaged decking, insulation, or underlayment. Damaged decks will be repaired or replaced. The roofers will install insulation with adhesive, hot asphalt or screws and plates. Membrane or roll goods will be installed over the insulation using adhesive, hot asphalt, or fasteners. The roof may require rock/gravel ballast which is transported from a roof conveyor or crane to a wheelbarrow. The ballast is moved by wheelbarrow or gravel carts to designated areas. Some roofs require coatings which are applied by hand rollers, squeegees, or power sprayers.
