About The Position

Set up and operate Rollomatic CNC tool grinding machines to perform precision finishing operations on carbide and steel cutting tools. Support small-batch and custom production through frequent changeovers while maintaining strict tolerances and quality standards. Monitor machine performance, ensure consistent output, and maximize efficiency within Rollomatic grinding operations.

Requirements

  • Previous experience with basic machine operation or related technical training.
  • One year of direct machine setup and operation experience.
  • Previous experience involving principles of grinding.
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow written instructions and shop drawings.
  • Above average math skills.
  • Must be able to calculate appropriate machine settings and adjust accordingly.
  • Must have good math and trigonometry skills.
  • Must be able to use required precision measuring and testing equipment.
  • Broad knowledge of cutting tool design and universal grinding procedures through using multi-axis CNC equipment.
  • Computer literate, able to enter programs and directions.

Nice To Haves

  • Strongly preferred candidates with previous experience operating CNC grinding equipment such as; Toyoda, Studer, Mitsubishi, Tschudin, Kellenberger & Reinecker.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and review work assignments; verify tool blanks, specifications, and routing for correct part type, quantity, and processing sequence.
  • Set up and operate Rollomatic CNC tool grinding machines, including loading programs, selecting appropriate grinding wheels, collets, guide bushings, and tooling packages.
  • Input and verify machine offsets and setup parameters; grind first article, inspect to print specifications, and make necessary program or offset adjustments.
  • Dress and maintain grinding wheels using appropriate dressing systems to ensure profile accuracy and surface finish requirements.
  • Load raw material and manage automated or semi-automated work handling systems where applicable.
  • Run machines in automatic cycle, monitoring operations and performing in-process inspections to ensure tools meet dimensional and quality standards.
  • Perform frequent changeovers to support short-run, high-mix production of precision cutting tools.
  • Optimize machine utilization by managing cycle times and maintaining continuous operation within assigned equipment.
  • Enter and track production data accurately in the data collection system.
  • Monitor machine performance, identify issues, and coordinate maintenance or troubleshooting to minimize downtime and maintain equipment integrity.
  • Complete all required job documentation and inspection records.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with shop and safety standards.
