About The Position

Come join our Pavilion Team as a Skating Instructor Bend Park and Recreation District Play for Life! About the job: Teaches all levels of progressive youth and adult roller-skating instructional programs providing a safe, successful and fun learning experience for participants. Teach the progressive skills that are fundamental to the sport. Promote an environment consistent with program philosophies and goals. A day in the life: Instructs and supervises participants in roller skating and roller blading programs. Ensures safe use of facilities. Maintains security of facility. Reports vandalism and theft. Maintains all required records and forms. Responds to accidents and incidents according to procedures. Set up and break down of equipment and facilities. Maintains the cleanliness of facilities and equipment. Communicates effectively with participants, parents and staff, providing accurate information related to work assignment. Participates in district wide special events as needed. Performs other job related duties as assigned. This posting will be used to fulfill a variety of programs, including: Learn to skate - roller skates Learn to skate - roller blades All learn to skate classes are held Mondays 4:00pm-6:00pm and Wednesdays, 5:00pm-6:45pm from April 27- June 11th. For the remainder of the summer, there are Adult Jam Skating classes and Adult level 1-2 classes held Wednesday evenings and Saturday nights, 7:00pm-7:45pm.

Requirements

  • Strong Knowledge of: Skate instruction including the fundamentals; safety guidelines related to assignment; child development and age appropriate learning and communication strategies; teaching methods, practices and progressions for a wide range abilities and ages.
  • Skill and Ability to: Roller skate or roller blade at an intermediate to advanced level.
  • Organize and lead classes toward determined goals; communicate effectively with and to motivate youth and adult of various ages and abilities; lead and mentor newer instructors; demonstrate strong technical competency in skills teaching; physical ability to perform the duties; work cooperatively with others and create a positive, respectful and constructive relationship with staff and the general public.
  • Must be a minimum of 15 years of age
  • Currently attending high school
  • Any satisfactory combination of education, experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge of instruction fundamentals skills skating.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior coaching, teaching or child development experience.
  • First Aid/CPR
