The role of the Roll Turner is to program and operate the various CNC lathes, grinders, and associated equipment in the Roll Shops. The Roll Turner assures the quality of the product is maintained to applicable specifications by mechanical testing of the finished rolls and measuring/recording the dimensional information. Roll Turners are required to become trained and proficient at all other Roll Shop positions. Roll Turners are also required to make schedules for the rolling mill through schedule maker software, and they will perform stand maintenance in the roll shop. The qualified candidate must be able to go the extra mile, whether it is hours worked, or responsibilities accepted, with the proper attitude and dependability. Must be willing to work rotating shifts. Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

  • Program and operate various CNC lathes, grinders, and associated equipment in the Roll Shops.
  • Assure the quality of the product is maintained to applicable specifications by mechanical testing of the finished rolls.
  • Measure and record the dimensional information of the rolls.
  • Become trained and proficient at all other Roll Shop positions.
  • Make schedules for the rolling mill through schedule maker software.
  • Perform stand maintenance in the roll shop.
  • Demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards.
  • Understanding of the rolling and all associated processes.
  • Previous experience in a steel mill turning and/or grinding tool steel and/or carbide rolls.
  • Three years or more of Roll Shop or Roll Mill Experience or equivalent.
  • Industrial mechanical experience.
  • Previous Pass Design Experience.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and CadCam Software.
  • Associates degree in CNC machining or 5 years equivalent experience.
