About The Position

The ROI Specialist at Memorial Hermann Health System is responsible for managing the release of protected health information (PHI) in a customer-focused environment. This role emphasizes accuracy, compliance with privacy laws, and exceptional service to both internal and external customers, ensuring patient rights are safeguarded while maintaining high standards of care and efficiency.

Requirements

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in Health Information Technology or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of six months experience in a customer service setting, preferably in health information management.
  • Basic knowledge of healthcare terminology.
  • Knowledge and understanding of privacy information preferred.
  • Strong prioritization and organization skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Critical thinking skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a professional team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to written requests for the release of protected health information (PHI) promptly and courteously.
  • Ensure accuracy and safeguard patient rights to privacy by adhering to policies and federal/state privacy laws.
  • Identify and compile protected health information to be released as outlined in requests.
  • Apply quality checks to ensure compliance with the release of PHI and identify documentation gaps.
  • Communicate documentation gaps to appropriate staff and monitor medical records for resolution of errors.
  • Verify charges associated with the production of requested PHI before invoicing the requestor.
  • Ensure that the production of requested information is legible and that supporting documentation is accounted for.
  • Provide first point of contact service to internal/external customers regarding PHI release.
  • Schedule patient reviews of medical records.
  • Maintain knowledge of state and federal privacy laws to mitigate organizational risk.
  • Adhere to Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications.
  • Promote individual professional growth and development through continuing education and skills competency.
  • Serve as a preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
  • Model Memorial Hermann's service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized, and efficient experiences.
