About The Position

The ROI Medical Records Specialist is responsible for processing release of information requests efficiently and accurately while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and safeguarding patient privacy. This role involves customer service, quality checks, and maintaining equipment, as well as potentially driving to multiple client sites for onsite work.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma (GED) required.
  • A minimum of 2 years prior experience in a medical records department or similar setting preferred.
  • Strong computer software experience, with general working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel required.
  • Excellent organizational skills are a must.
  • Ability to type 50 wpm.
  • Ability to use fax, copier, and scanning machine.
  • Willingness to learn new equipment and processes quickly.
  • Self-motivated and a team player.
  • Proven customer satisfaction skills.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to pass the DMV background check.

Responsibilities

  • Completes release of information requests including retrieving and returning patient's medical chart, scanning medical records, and transmitting daily according to established procedures.
  • Date stamps all requests and highlights pertinent data to facilitate processing.
  • Validates requests and authorizations for release of medical information according to established procedures.
  • Performs quality checks on all work to assure accuracy of the release, confidentiality, and proper invoicing.
  • Maintains equipment in excellent operating condition.
  • Provides excellent customer service by being attentive and respectful, ensuring understanding of customer requests, and proactively identifying client concerns.
  • May receive incoming requests including opening mail, telephone inquiries, and retrieving facsimile inquiries.
  • Maintains a neat, clean, and professional personal appearance and observes the dress code established.
  • May include driving to/from multiple client sites to do onsite ROI work.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area, ensuring that records and files are properly stored before leaving the area.
  • Maintains working knowledge of existing state laws and fee structure.
  • Works within the scope of position and direction; willingly accepts assignments and is available to help out during backlogs.
  • Carries out responsibilities in accordance with client/site policies and procedures, including HIPAA and state/federal regulations.
  • Maintains confidentiality, security, and standards of ethics with all information.
