About The Position

Installing and securing steel reinforcing bars (rebar) and mesh in concrete structures to ensure strength and stability. This role involves reading blueprints, cutting and bending steel, tying rebar, and working closely with other construction professionals to meet project specifications and safety standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (High School Equivalence Certificate).
  • Minimum 2 years in craft.
  • Must have the ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License with minimal infractions.
  • Understanding construction methods and practices, especially concrete reinforcement.
  • Knowledge of blueprints, drawings, and rebar schedules.
  • Basic math for measuring, cutting, and bending steel rods.
  • Physical strength and stamina for lifting heavy materials and working in demanding conditions.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Problem-solving skills for adjusting layouts and resolving on-site issues.
  • Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Tool operation skills, including rebar cutters, benders, and tying tools.
  • Ability to maintain focus and attention to detail under physically demanding conditions.
  • Familiarity with OSHA safety regulations and job site safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints and rebar schedules to determine placement and specifications.
  • Measure, cut, bend, and install reinforcing steel bars and mesh according to project requirements.
  • Tie rebar securely using wire and appropriate tools to ensure structural integrity.
  • Position and align rebar within forms before concrete pouring, maintaining correct spacing and clearance.
  • Operate hand tools and power equipment such as rebar cutters, benders, and tying machines safely.
  • Maintain compliance with safety standards and OSHA regulations at all times.
  • Lift, carry, and maneuver heavy materials in various positions and environments.
  • Work collaboratively with other construction team members to meet deadlines and quality standards.
  • Inspect completed work for accuracy and adherence to specifications.
