Reinforcing Ironworkers position and secure steel bars or mesh in concrete forms in order to reinforce concrete using a variety of fasteners, rod-bending machines, blowtorches, and hand tools. Apprentices of this skilled trade enroll in a time-based program for 2 years with an on the job learning attainment of 4,000 hours, supplemented by the minimum required 288 hours of related instruction. All training and coursework are provided by the company. Apprentices may begin at a pay rate of $19.00 per hour and receive regular increases in pay based on completion of on the job learning requirements. Once all related instruction and on the job learning is completed, the minimum wage for a graduate of the apprenticeship program is $25.00 per hour. Rates may be negotiable based on prior experience. Credit for previous training and certifications may also be applied to new apprentice enrollments with satisfactory evidence of certifications on a case-by-case basis.
