About The Position

Camp Fireweed Rock Wall Specialist Camp Fireweed is NOT an overnight camp and does NOT provide room and board Gear up for outdoor adventures at our day camp located in Anchorage on the campus of Alaska Pacific University. We take full advantage of this natural setting, making every day another opportunity for campers to explore the forest, practice target sports, or launch a canoe from the waterfront. In addition to a huge catalog of activities and games, we structure each session to create a classic, outdoor summer camp experience. Position Description: The Camp Fireweed Rock Wall Specialist adheres to Camp Fire Alaska’s (CFA) promise to provide youth with the opportunity to find their spark, lift their voice, and discover who they are through positive and responsible youth/adult interactions within the day camp environment. The Rock Wall Specialist will be responsible for providing instruction, guidance, and supervision to staff and campers during rock climbing activities and field trips. Additionally, this position will serve as back-up providing for coverage for Cabin Counselor duties as needed. In this position you'll gain valuable experience providing a high-quality camp experience for participants and parents within the CFA mission and goals. You'll have an opportunity to lead and participate in all camp activities along with planning and implementing age appropriate activities consistent with campers' needs/abilities that promote, encourage, and demonstrate caring, striving and thriving. Requirements

  • Current Belay Certification or evidence of successful training.
  • Prior experience in leading/facilitating recreational wall climbing, bouldering, and belaying
  • Prior experience working with youth preferred.
  • Eighteen (18) years of age required to maintain compliance with regulatory and accrediting entities.
  • Current Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/ First Aid Certification from a nationally recognized provider.
