The Robotics Technician is responsible for modifying existing automation control systems and designing, estimating, and commissioning new ones integrated with Robots based on PLC's. They implement Safety Category 4 for installations, presses, and robotics work cells and integrate equipment with robots and testing instruments. The engineer troubleshoots process problems, participates in Continuous Improvement initiatives, and maintains automated work cells, mechanical, and hydraulic presses. They also set up and conduct maintenance programs, follow standardized work instructions/procedures, and ensure compliance with customer requirements and quality, health and safety, and environmental standards

Requirements

  • Degree/diploma in Electrical Engineering, or Electro-Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 3 Years of experience in Electrical / Controls Design and Programmable Logic Controllers / Human Machine Interface Programming (PLC / HMI) / Vision Systems / Robot programming and troubleshooting including debugging, testing and commissioning.
  • Strong MS Office skills
  • Proficient knowledge in PLC Programming: Allen Bradley RsLogix 500, 5000, Omron Sysmac Studio, Omron CS-Programmer, Omron NT-series Support Tool, Beckhoff, Visual Studios, Factory Talk View Studio, HMI Software (RsView Studio ME), Office, AutoCAD, Ethernet based communications and networks
  • Ability to understand advanced PLC commands and HMI usage
  • Ability to create and modify electrical drawings, process & instrumentation diagrams and schematics when required
  • Exposure with configuring communication bus architectures using Ethernet and DeviceNet
  • Experience with the design and integration of machine safety circuits, safety PLC's and applications (ABB Jokab)
  • Relevant experience with motion control architectures preferably around Allen Bradley Kinetix and/or VFD drive systems
  • Experience with Data Tracking using Barcode Scanners or RFID
  • Must be willing to work "hands on" in the manufacturing area
  • Extensive knowledge of the Ontario Electrical Code and Electrical Circuits Confident leading automation programs and integrating robot applications
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Willing to work overtime as per job requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Electrician, an asset
  • Experience with Fanuc, ABB, and Kuka robots an asset

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for modifying existing automation control systems as well as designing, estimating, and commissioning new automation control systems integrated with Robots based on PLC's
  • Implement Safety Category 4 for all required installations, presses and robotics work cells
  • Integrate equipment with robots and various testing and monitoring instruments
  • Troubleshoot process problems and initiative and/or participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives and quality improvements
  • Maintain and service automated work cells; mechanical and hydraulic presses
  • Set up and conduct predictive and preventative maintenance programs for required equipment
  • Perform all work in good standard, respond to off duty calls, and work rotating shifts if required.
  • Follow all work cell and/or department standardized work instructions/procedures.
  • Ensure, with the cooperation of other Co-Ex-Tec departments and Corporate that the division achieves and maintains the highest possible Customer rating for satisfaction; strive for zero defects in all areas of the business.
  • Ensure compliance and enforcement of Customer Specific Requirements, QMS (IATF16949), Health and Safety
  • (ISO 45001), EMS (ISO14001), and security (PIP) requirements.
  • Perform housekeeping duties to maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
  • Promote and comply with health, safety, and environmental standards, safe operating procedures, good housekeeping practices and the observance of protective equipment requirements at all times.
  • Attend authorized training in order to develop and/or maintain relevant job-related knowledge, techniques, skills, and/or certification.
  • May be required to carry out job duties and responsibilities in a work environment that may include, but is not limited to, varying levels of noise and/or temperature.
  • Perform any other reasonable duty as required or assigned by Management
