About The Position

Neptune Medical, is an innovative, venture capital funded medical device startup headquartered in Burlingame, CA. We have already commercialized novel medical devices using our technology. Now the team at Neptune is building something truly unique: a fully flexible medical robot that enables doctors to reach deep into human anatomy. Triton Robotic Endoscopy will disrupt flexible endoscopy and set a new standard in outcomes for decades to come. TITLE: Robotics Systems Engineering Co-op DURATION: 6-9 months START DATE: Winter 2026 POSITION SUMMARY: We are seeking a current mechanical, electromechanical, robotics, aerospace, or equivalent undergraduate or graduate student to join us for a spring and summer co-op. In this role you will gain valuable hands-on experience developing mechatronic systems for novel medical robotic applications all while learning from a world class team of engineers. The ideal candidate is motivated, determined, and proactive, and acts with passion and intensity in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate or Graduate student majoring in Mechanical Engineering or other electromechanical engineering field.
  • Specific hands-on experience with:
  • Mechatronics
  • Robotics & controls fundamentals including kinematics, dynamics, sensors, and actuators
  • Python or Matlab for scripting and data analysis
  • Basic understanding of brushless motors, different sensor types, power transmission methods, etc.
  • Experience with Robot Operating System (ROS) and one programming language (C, C++ etc).
  • A demonstrated desire to play an important role in a small, lean, medical device start-up.

Nice To Haves

  • Bonus: ability to use SolidWorks and 3D printing for rapid prototyping.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build prototype mechatronic systems for research and product development purposes
  • Integrate software and hardware and test the integrated system in clinically relevant conditions
  • Characterize and analyze robot performance data using Python or other programming language
  • Use data driven systems analysis to provide design input to hardware and software teams
  • Support clinical development labs while learning the clinical use case
  • Perform root cause analysis of robot bugs and failures
  • Design and build test fixtures
  • Work effectively within the confines of a regulated, quality-system driven, FDA-monitored medical device environment.
  • Work well both independently and as part of a fast-moving, collaborative team.
