Robotics & Digital Solutions, part of the Johnson & Johnson family of companies, is recruiting for a Manager, Robotics and Controls, Instruments. This position is located in Santa Clara, CA. At J&J Robotics we're changing the trajectory of health for humanity, using robotics to enhance healthcare providers' abilities and improve patients' diagnoses, treatments, and recovery times. J&J Robotics was established in 2020 with the integration of Auris Health, Verb Surgical, C-SATS, and Ethicon. It comprises three key med-tech platforms: Flexible Robotics (MONARCH®), Surgical Robotics (OTTAVA™), and Digital Solutions. You'll collaborate on breakthrough medical technologies that unite multiple subject areas to build a connected digital ecosystem that advances medical professionals' skills and improves patient outcomes. The Robotics & Controls (SW) Engineer will join the wider Robotics & Controls Software team. We are a group of highly motivated roboticists working on the development of algorithms and productions level software that live at the heart of a complex electromechanical surgical system. We are responsible for a vast set of robotic functions: kinematic & dynamic analysis, motion generation, control algorithms, dynamic system response, tracking performance, rigorous software development etc.
Requirements
- MSc in Robotics, ME, CS, EE, or equivalent field is required
- A minimum of 2 years of experience working on robotics or other complex electromechanical systems is required
- Strong programming experience in C++ is a must, experience with Python and/or Matlab is required
- Solid understanding of serial manipulator design, kinematics & dynamics and controls strongly preferred
- Outstanding communication skills is strongly preferred
- Ability to travel up to 5%, domestic and international is required

Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and test robotic and control algorithms for complex electromechanical systems
- Effectively develop C++ software in a real-time, safety critical environment
- Actively participate in algorithmic, control, mechanical design discussions and code reviews
- Assist w/ regulatory filings such as FDA 510(k) in accordance with Quality guidelines
