About The Position

Incumbent to carry out day to day operations in safe manner and completing given tasks. Overseeing and coordinating a team of workers to ensure the safe and efficient upkeep of the road by managing repair projects, scheduling maintenance projects, and allocating resources to maintain the road quality in each zone. The position is not eligible for a modified or hybrid work arrangement.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Microsoft experience (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Must maintain a valid operator’s license

  • Level 1: 1-3 years of relevant work experience
  • Level 2: 4-6 years of relevant work experience
  • Level 3: 7+ years of relevant work experience
  • Prior management experience

Responsibilities

  • Performs all tasks safely, complies with all internal and external safety requirements, supports ITRCC’s safety culture, attends all safety training, and completes all compliance trainings as required by ITRCC.
  • Upholds ITRCC’s core values: Community, Actions, Reliability, Excellence and Safety (CARES).
  • Assign and delegate job duties daily to the crew and ensure materials and equipment are available .
  • Direct methods, policies, procedures and scheduling of the daily job needs and explain the purpose of each job.
  • Maintain a strong safety culture by reviewing JHA’s and JSA’s. Inspect roadways bridges and other infrastructure for deterioration and safety issues.
  • Upholds all company policies and procedures as well as local, state, and federal laws.
  • Maintain a strong safety culture through employee engagement, review of job hazard analysis documents, and conveying to management safety items for consideration.
  • Maintain budget compliance by reviewing any needed spends with management, and by limiting overtime hours for critical situations, seeking prior approval when appropriate.
  • Drafts short-range (two weeks) plans to conform to material and allocated man-hours remaining. Priorities established with alternatives due to weather conditions.
  • Decides the most efficient utilization of personnel and equipment for each task. Takes into consideration manpower capabilities.
  • Assigns work to crews, making sure the needed material and equipment is available.
  • Explains methods, policies & procedures, scheduling, and equipment available. Also explains purpose of job and long and short range programs that may affect the work.
  • Efficient methods of work are discussed and encouraged. Assures best use of time and correct use of tools and equipment.
  • Inspects work being performed for methods and procedures as well as meeting acceptable standards.
  • Inspects work upon completion for appearance and end result. Inspects roadway and bridges for deterioration and failure of its components.
  • Provides on-the-job training and special training sessions concerning correct maintenance methods, management, safety, and first aid, etc.
  • Interacts with VueWorks for data storage regarding work accomplishments and other asset details.
  • In conjunction with HR and management, hold staff conferences with subordinates to be sure applicable policies, rules, and regulations are understood and to determine problems or disciplinary action being considered or recommended. Counsels subordinates on good work habits.
  • Assist Manager with annual job evaluation of subordinates and discuss findings with the employee. Recommendations or suggestions are noted concerning improvements and/or commendable activities.
  • Work in a collaborative environment while respecting coworkers and supervision.
  • Must comply with on-call status.
  • Availability to plan and respond to inclement weather situations, includes snow and ice operations, wind events and seasonal storms.
  • Make recommendations for promotions or dismissals.
  • Conduct daily building and roadway inspections.
  • Set up times for repairs and maintain records for insurance claims.
  • Conduct truck inspections and order parts through PO’s.
  • Oversee traffic control, lane closures, and moving operations for safety compliance.
  • Develops and trains new employees to ensure effective team performance, focused on safety and accountability. Direct teams efforts through the Roadway Academy. Provide on the job training and special training.
  • Correspond to all emails, teams, text messages and phone calls.
  • Work with towing companies, ISP and fire departments.
  • Carry out any disciplines when needed.
  • Complete and file all paperwork from the day.
  • All other duties as assigned
  • Participate in a management-led mentorship program with an ITR manager.
  • Obtain Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) certification from accredited institution or other qualified source
  • Obtain 2-year associated degree in a business related field.
  • Obtain roadway safety training certification through ATSSA or other certified organization.
  • Obtain certified technician certification through INDOT or other accredited institution.
  • Tier changes can happen if the employee meets the qualifications during the next review period.
