About The Position

GFT is seeking a Roadway Lighting / Illumination Engineer to join our Building and Places Team! This role follows a hybrid work model at either of our New York, NY, Mechanicsburg, PA, Baltimore, MD, Philadelphia, PA, Fairfax, VA, East Brunswick, NJ or Washington, DC offices. At GFT, the electrical team is dedicated to creating efficient, innovative solutions for electrical systems.   • Ability to lead analysis, design and preparation of electrical engineering elements and plans for agencies.
  • Assists in determining project schedules, cost estimates, and budget requirements.
  • Preparation of technical and cost proposals for electrical design components.
  • Preparation of lighting analysis including developing highway lighting warrants, criteria, reports and designs.
  • Understanding and application of codes and standards including NEC, NFPA, IBC.
  • Proficiency in the use of AASHTO, IES Roadway Lighting Publications, and associated design manuals.
  • Proficiency with VISUAL and/or AGi32 lighting analysis software.
  • Capacity to independently prepare Roadway Lighting designs.
  • Familiarity with NJDOT, NYSDOT, NYCDOT, PANYNJ, NJTA, TBTA, MassDOT, DDOT, PennDOT design standards and practices.
  • Proficiency with Bentley’s OpenRoads, Autodesk’s Civil 3D, AutoCAD/REVIT and familiarity with BIM.
  • 5 plus years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or Bachelor of Architectural Engineering.
  • Engineer In Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) is a plus.
  • Previous DOT and Design-Build experience is a plus.
  • Experience in low voltage power distribution, CCTV, fiber optic, communications and systems engineering primarily for the transportation/transit industry is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and design electrical lighting systems related to facilities, utilities, and infrastructure.
  • Assist in the development of calculations, reports, code analysis and design documents in highway, tunnel, exterior lighting and electrical design.
  • Perform site survey of existing conditions.
  • Review Submittals.
  • Respond to RFI’s.
  • Develop project specifications and cost estimates for construction.
  • Coordinate work with other disciplines during the design process.
  • Develop Final record drawing at the completion of projects.
  • Provide support during construction activities as needed.
  • Participate in meetings with clients, government agencies, utility companies and project teams.
