About The Position

The Roadway Engineering Team Leader plays a pivotal role in driving the success of the firm's transportation projects by leading a team of engineers and design technicians through all phases of project execution. This role ensures technical excellence, quality control, and timely delivery of complex roadway design projects for DOT and local agency clients. By fostering a collaborative team environment and mentoring junior staff, the Team Leader strengthens the firm's internal capabilities while enhancing client satisfaction through strategic relationship management. Their leadership not only ensures successful project outcomes but also contributes to the firm's long-term growth and reputation in the transportation engineering sector.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Typically requires 12+ years of relevant experience in engineering.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain and enhance client relationships.
  • Experience with project management and accounting software.
  • Exceptional organization skills.
  • Proficiency with relevant engineering software and tools for design, project management, and analysis.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including: Teams, Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Responsibilities

  • Leading a team that may consist of engineers and design technicians.
  • Providing mentorship and guidance to junior-level engineers and other team members to aid in their professional development.
  • Fostering a collaborative and positive work environment among the team.
  • Serving as a project manager for INDOT and local agency roadway design projects.
  • Overseeing and participating in project execution from initiation to completion.
  • Monitoring project progress, identifying potential risks, and implementing mitigation strategies as needed.
  • Performing quality checks on work performed by project team members.
  • Providing leadership in the planning, design, and execution of major projects.
  • Preparing project documents and designs, conducting analyses, interpreting data, and planning and coordinating the engineering work to ensure timely and successful project delivery.
  • Reviewing and approving project deliverables, including drawings and specifications.
  • Serving as a technical expert in Roadway design.
  • Identifying opportunities for process improvement and implementing measures to enhance efficiency, productivity, and quality of work.
  • Maintaining and enhancing relationships with clients, ensuring a high level of service, communication, and client satisfaction.
  • Collaborating with senior management on strategic planning and assisting with business development.
  • Preparing proposals and/or funding applications.
