About The Position

As a Roadway Department Manager at Michael Baker International, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining trusted adviser relationships with local clients, determining direction, and leading market awareness. This includes involvement in professional associations, technical articles, conferences, and boards. You will work closely with the Office Executive and other local staff to develop targeted client service action plans for WVDOT, counties, and cities. Additionally, you will coordinate the staff workload with other transportation departments within the company. Your role will also involve successful contracting and project execution, leading and participating in developing pursuits and strategic positioning for major Transportation project opportunities, including alternative delivery projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field.
  • 20+ years of WVDOH roadway experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License in West Virginia or PE licensed in another state with the ability to become licensed in West Virginia within 6 months.
  • Demonstrated supervisory and mentoring skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, presentation skills, public speaking ability, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience overseeing successful project delivery.
  • Proven track record of leading winning proposals.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in engineering.
  • 15+ years relevant experience.
  • Established client relationships and experience with West Virginia Department of Transportation, local counties, or other West Virginia municipal clients.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Grow and manage the Transportation Practices for the Charleston office.
  • Lead a dynamic team of engineers and designers in roadway, highway, and interstate improvement projects for WVDOT and local clients.
  • Deliver projects according to agreed plans, budgets, quality objectives, and client satisfaction.
  • Lead, assign, and review the work of the project delivery team, providing technical guidance and oversight.
  • Identify and manage project risks.
  • Oversee hiring, development, and retention of staff, including performance reviews and succession planning.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key client decision makers and stay ahead of project advertisements.
  • Serve as the lead interface with clients.
  • Lead proposal strategies and participate in business development to win work.
  • Be an active member of the Transportation community through professional organization involvement.
