About The Position

The RNFA will work under the direction and direct supervision of the surgeon. The RNFA having acquired the necessary knowledge, judgment and skills specific to the role of RNFA works in collaboration with the surgeon and other healthcare team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Requirements

• Associate's Degree (Required)
• CNOR - Certified Nurse Operating Room - Competency & Credentialing Institute (CCI)
• RNFA - Registered Nurse First Assist - Competency and Credentialing Institute
• RN - Registered Nurse - Ohio Board of Nursing
• Knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology and operative techniques related to the operative procedures in which RNFA will be 1st assisting.

Responsibilities

• Preoperative patient management in collaboration with the healthcare team, performing nursing assessments and preoperative evaluations.
• Communicating with healthcare team members the plan of care.
• Participating in postoperative rounds and discharge planning.
• Functioning as a first assist to the primary surgeon under the direction of the surgeon.
• Utilizing appropriate techniques to assist with closure of body planes, wound layers, subcutaneous, and skin closures.
• Injecting local anesthetic.
• Participating in the desiccation of tissue.
• Providing hemostasis.
• Placing laparoscopic trocars.
• Coordinating the camera or changing out robotic arms and instruments during endoscopic surgery.
• Providing exposure for the surgeon and visualization of the operative site.
• Activating cautery and operating the electrosurgical unit.
• Performing specialized tissue handling, dissection, or cutting techniques such as trocar placement, preparation of allografts, and saphenous vein harvesting.
