About The Position

Located in Templeton amongst the oak trees, Adventist Health Twin Cities has been serving northern San Luis Obispo County since 1977. Comprised of a 122-bed acute care facility, our team provides exceptional care in emergency medicine, orthopedics, obstetrics, digestive disorders, wound care, and various medical, surgical and outpatient services. Locals enjoy weekly farmers markets in downtown Templeton, farm-to-fork dining, beautiful landscapes for hiking and biking, and beach days just fifteen minutes away at Cambria and Morro Bay. Job Summary: Perform the professional functions of a Registered Nurse in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of patients. Coordinate, manage, provide and delegate patient care. Responsible for meeting the established Standards of Nursing Practice, and promoting cooperation among the health care team. In addition, the Registered Nurse shall meet personal accountabilities as defined in the Tenet Standards of Conduct, Service, People, Quality, Growth and Cost. Assit under the direction of the primary operating surgeon in the perioperative care of the patients undergoing a surgical experience. The RNFA functions within the policies and guidelines established by the facility and reports directly to Director of Perioperative Services. The RNFA is an expanded role of the registered nurse and is accountable for exemplifying leadership and professionalism in the implementation of the role. This position is represented by CNA.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a school of nursing: Required
  • Certification of completion of an approved didactic RNFA course: Required
  • Three years scrub and circulate experience in an acute care facility: Required
  • Annual surgeon review: Required
  • Current RN license in state of practice: Required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) certification: Required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support): Required
  • Certified Nurse, Operating Room (CNOR): Required
  • Current Professional Liability insurance: Required
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in state of practice: Required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Healthstream Advanced Cardiac Life Support (HS-ACLS) or RQIACLS: Required
  • Professional Liability Insurance (PLI): Required

Nice To Haves

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS OR HS-PALS OR RQIPALS) certification: Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assures patients personal needs are met.

  • Obtains history/physical assessment according to unit specific nursing protocol for all age groups.
  • Reviews medical history, physical examination, and all available assessment data.
  • Identifies abnormal diagnostic data and reports to appropriate person.
  • Provides information needed to begin discharge planning in a timely manner, and to the appropriate personnel.
  • Recognizes sings and symptoms of cardiac or respiratory distress, or other impending emergencies.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and ability to effectively function in Code Blue and other emergency situations.
  • Accurately administers and charts medications according to hospital policies and procedures using patient’s 6 rights.
  • Implements and /or assists others in implementation and documentation of planned education.
  • Assesses patient’s educational needs.
  • Demonstrates intraoperative competency as an RNFA: manual dexterity, suturing and litigating, providing hemostasis, exposing the surgical site, position, prepping and draping.
  • Assist in the development and education of new staff members.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings.
  • Completes education, training, and competencies for department specific skills.
  • Successfully adapts to changes in the unit, environment, and work flow.
  • Assures all patient charge items are charged and documented correctly.
  • Utilizes department resources appropriately.
  • Minimizes incidental overtime.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
