St. Michael's Hospital Avera is looking to fill a part-time Registered Nurse position in the hospital. Join the St. Michael's Hospital team! The position utilizes the nursing process of assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating all nursing care provided. The nurse acts as a patient/family advocate and intervenes if necessary to ensure that patient care is not compromised. Responsibilities include assessing the patient, recording significant conditions and reactions, notifying supervisors or physicians appropriately, monitoring follow-up, and providing further intervention as needed. The nurse initiates, provides, or delegates patient/family teaching at a level of expertise and documents appropriately, noting the recipients’ participation and response. The role also involves identifying problems/concerns on the nursing unit and assisting in developing resolutions in a positive, constructive manner, contributing positively to the morale of the department. The nurse demonstrates the ability to provide appropriate care to patients of all ages and completes all mandatory competencies identified for the job and department. Knowledge of department-specific infection control, disaster, and safety policies is essential, along with maintaining competency in care of patients with medical diagnoses, including those with chronic and multi-system failure, and technical skills such as care of chest tubes, administration of blood and chemotherapy, and IV conscious sedation.

  • Completes computer competency checklist and remains current with computer updates.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and ability to maintain competency in care of patients with medical diagnoses, including those with chronic and multi-system failure.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and ability to maintain competency in care of patients requiring technical skills such as care of chest tubes, administration of blood and chemotherapy, IV conscious sedation.
  • Graduate of a registered nurse education program.
  • Must have current RN licensure in the state of SD or 'multi-state privilege' to practice in SD if residing in a compact state outside of SD.
  • Current CPR certification or completion upon next available program.
  • Current Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum certification or completion upon next available program.
