This position provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and protocols of the healthcare organization. The RN uses medical-surgical nursing practice standards to enhance patient and family care quality, systematically evaluating nursing practice effectiveness. Key responsibilities include establishing effective relationships and advocating for patients and their families to develop unique care plans. The role involves utilizing the nursing process for patient assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, intervention implementation, and evaluation. The RN develops assessment and management strategies considering various dimensions of human responses to health problems and demonstrates knowledge of illness impact on patient status. Leadership skills are used to coordinate and collaborate with patients, families, communities, and inter-professional teams in care planning and delivery. Effective communication is crucial for culturally sensitive, ethical, legal, holistic, informed, compassionate, and humane collaborative decision-making within economic resource boundaries. The RN educates patients and families on health promotion, maintenance, restoration, or comfort measures. Additionally, the role fosters a healthy work environment by mentoring nursing colleagues and applying evidence-based practice and scientific knowledge to ensure age-specific and clinical needs-based care. The RN is expected to work in a constant state of alertness and safety and may perform point of care testing.
