Requirements

  • Graduate of accredited School of Nursing
  • Current registration in the State of Connecticut
  • IV certification is required.
  • Must have tolerance and compassion for the geriatric population.
  • Must be a team leader and a team player. Able to work with others.
  • Must be knowledgeable of infection control policies and procedures and universal precautions.
  • Good physical and mental health.
  • Must have understanding, patience and tact in dealing with co-workers, residents and family members.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates the ability to contribute to resident care conferences and develop and implement care plans.
  • Demonstrates the ability to maintain safe IV therapy.
  • Demonstrates the ability to administer medications, narcotics, and treatments (sterile dressing, clean dressing, proper surgical technique) including proper documentation.
  • Demonstrates the ability to transcribe and execute doctors and pharmacy orders.
  • Demonstrates knowledge, understanding and ability to use diagnostic equipment, i.e., Protime, EKG, glucometer, feeding pump, Doppler, pulse oximeter for O2 saturation.
  • Provides accurate, timely input of MDS reporting requirements, working in partnership with PPS Coordinator.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the admission process and documentation to include initial nursing assessment and care planning process.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Medicare Policies and Procedures and documentation guidelines.
  • Recognized resident change of condition and initiates proper intervention.
  • Knowledgeable of Residents Rights and facility Abuse Policies and Procedures.
  • Perform any other duties or responsibilities that may become necessary or as directed by the DNS or supervisor.
