About The Position

Horizon Health is a Critical Access, Rural Health Facility comprised of 25-inpatient beds located in Paris, IL & a multitude of outpatient clinic settings including Family Practice and Specialty Clinics in Paris and surrounding cities. We have been serving residents of Edgar County since 1968 though community education, emergency services, and outpatient care. Position Summary: The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the nursing care of the patients assigned to him/her during a given period of time. The RN functions under minimal supervision and according to established policies, procedures, and professional nursing standards. The RN performs other assignments as required.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an associate degree, baccalaureate degree, or diploma school of nursing.
  • Current RN licensure in the state of Illinois.
  • BLS and ACLS required within 6 months of employment

Responsibilities

  • Assures that the patient’s chart is complete and includes the history & physical, diagnostic data, and the consent form.
  • Provide patient and family pre-operative education.
  • Assists the anesthetist with positioning the patient for spinal and regional anesthesia.
  • Provides for safety of patient by positioning to prevent injury, use of ground pad, padding of bony prominences, positioning to prevent nerve damage or muscle strain.
  • Preps the incision site according to established procedure.
  • Counts sponges, needles, and instruments per policy and reports any discrepancies.
  • Directs and assists with between case clean-up and proceeds with preparation for the next case.

  • Maintains patient safety in the recovery room (ie: patent airway, siderails up, patient attended at all times).
  • Initiates IV therapy, obtains patient’s consent on surgical consent, performs other treatments necessary for procedure.
  • Follows established chemotherapy protocols for administration and handling of chemotherapeutic agents.
  • Assists surgeon with retracting and suturing.
