About The Position

The primary purpose of this job position is to supervise the day-to-day nursing activities of the facility. Such supervision must be in accordance with the current federal, state, and local standards, and regulations that govern our facility, and as may be required by the Director of Nursing Services, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is always maintained.

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid and current R.N. or L.P.N. License in the State of Florida.
  • Must be able to write, read, and speak the English language.
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to speak the English language is an understandable manner.
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position are fully met.
  • Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
  • Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
  • Must be able to relate to work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotional upset, and at times, hostile people within the facility.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Must be free of communicable diseases.
  • Must have, as a minimum, one (1) years’ experience as a supervisor in a hospital, long-term care facility, or other health related care facility.
  • Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long term care.
  • Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with professional and no professional personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and directs the nursing care of all residents in accordance with current rules, regulations, and facility standards of care.
  • Ensure that the nursing service procedures and manual are followed by nursing personnel, and that it reflects the day nursing care procedures used by the facility.
  • Attends/coordinates various committee meetings of the facility (i.e. infection control, quality assurance, quarterly interdisciplinary meetings, etc.) as required.
  • Make daily rounds of the unit, to ensure that all nursing personnel are performing their work assignments in accordance with acceptable nursing standards. Report problem areas to Director of Nursing or designated person.
  • Assist support services in developing, implementing, and conducting in-service training programs, orientation programs, and other programs which relate to the nursing services department.
  • Perform routine charting duties as required and in accordance with our established charting and documentation policies and procedures. Monitor staff nurses and CNAs for compliance.
  • Monitor your shifts personnel to assure that they are flowing established safety regulations in the use of equipment, supplies, work areas, and that all nursing personnel participate in all fire safety and disaster preparedness drills in a safe and professional manner.
  • Assure that a stock level of medications, medical supplies, equipment, etc. is always maintained on the unit, and that supplies are used in an efficient manner to avoid waste.
  • Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis. Meet with staff on a regularly scheduled basis to assist in identifying and correcting problems. Review and evaluate work force and make recommendation to the Director of Nursing.
  • Monitor medication passes and treatment schedules to assure that medications are being administered as ordered and that treatments are provided as scheduled. Review medication and treatment books for accurate documentation.
  • Participate in the development of a written plan of care for each resident. This plan of care identifies the problems, needs, or concerns of that resident. Ensure that all personnel follow the resident plan of care.
  • Monitor nursing care to ensure that all resident rights are adhered to. Make certain that all nursing personnel are knowledgeable of resident's rights.
  • Identify problems and implement planned changes to improve nursing care on the unit. Inform Director of Nursing of staffing needs and develop work assignments.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
