Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing required.
• Graduate from a nationally accredited nursing program preferred.
• Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing.
• Obtains and maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
• Completion of Wound, Ostomy, and/or Continence Nursing Education Program and continued board certification within first 24 months of employment.
• Certification as a Wound and Ostomy Nurse through the Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nursing Certification Board (CWON) and/or (CWOCN).

Responsibilities

• Cares for patients with wound, ostomy, and/or continence needs.
• Consults, follows, and/or develops care protocols for pediatrics and adults requiring their services.
• Serves as a clinical resource and consultant to patient care staff in developing and implementing patient care plans.
• Demonstrates excellent clinical and interpersonal skills.
• Coordinates care, conducts patient assessments, provides patient education, triages, and performs various other nursing interventions.
• Collaborates with inter-professional colleagues, including physicians, to plan, implement, and evaluate care.
• Functions within the scopes and standards of nursing practice as outlined in the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules.
