About The Position

The Staff RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care of patients in the Wound Healing Center. He/She is also responsible for meeting the established WHC Standards of Nursing Practice in the management of all assigned patients. This person assists physicians with the care and treatment, development and implementation of wound treatment plans and participates in performance improvement review activities. The Staff RN demonstrates excellent customer service. He/She upholds the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant, and commits to Keeping our Promise of Caring.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse with current licensure in the State of Michigan.
  • Maintains skills and knowledge through training and continuing education.
  • Current state licensure.
  • Minimum of 2 years med-surg experience.
  • Minimum of two years of nursing experience required.
  • Computer competency, including Microsoft Office and Lotus Notes.
  • Knowledge of wound care and Hyperbaric treatment equipment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to work well with the public and able to be tactful in often hectic and stressful situations.
  • Clinical nursing skills.
  • Sound judgment in handling confidential or sensitive issues and material.
  • Constant standing, walking.
  • Frequent sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, twisting, reaching, handling, finger dexterity, feeling, talking, hearing, near vision, midrange vision, far vision, depth perception, visual accommodation, color vision, field of vision. Frequent lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, squatting.
  • Occasional lifting up to 100 lbs. or more.

Nice To Haves

  • Wound Care experience preferred.
  • Wound, Hyperbaric, medical-surgical or critical care experience is preferred.

  • Initiates a nursing assessment of patient’s condition upon admission.
  • Assesses and interprets reports communicating findings with the assigned physician.
  • Recognizes and assesses initial alterations in the patient’s body systems and verbalizes this to other members of the health care team.
  • Organizes assessment data for accuracy, completeness and confidentiality.
  • Records assessment data in an orderly fashion and communicates, revises and verbalizes pertinent information to other health care team members.
  • Provides direct patient care, also assesses, stages, measures wounds accurately and in accordance to policy.
  • Photographs wounds according to policy and procedure.
  • Completes in an accurate manner all admission nursing chart forms.
  • Assesses compliance to the clinical pathway and is instrumental in bringing to the attention of the physician or health care team missing components.
  • Identifies patient care situations that require intervention, implements nursing actions and evaluates responses.
  • Identifies patient/family education and discharge needs and implements a teaching plan of care. Planning
  • Collaborates with physician to develop a plan of care based on assessment data. Develops and implements a teaching plan.
  • Collaborates with physician the desired outcomes that are specific and measurable within a certain time frame and consistent with other health provider’s expectations.
  • Assesses whether the plan of care is effective with the physician and is instrumental in initiating changes as necessary.
  • Coordinates activities with other disciplines (rehab, nutrition, diabetic education, home health, DME, nursing homes and other ancillary services). Evaluation
  • Evaluates achievement or lack of achievement of desired outcomes.
  • Completes the four week reviews in a timely manner and initiates all recommendations to the plan.
  • Participates in quality improvement and staff meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
