Overview Job Summary: Demonstrates through behavior Decatur Morgan Hospital’s mission, vision and values. he Registered Nurse – Float Pool provides high-quality, compassionate, and flexible nursing care across multiple hospital units, including the Emergency Department (ED), Medical-Surgical, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and Step-Down Unit. The Float Pool RN demonstrates strong clinical competence, adaptability, and teamwork to meet diverse patient care needs in a dynamic environment. Responsibilities Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions 1. Patient Care & Clinical Practice: Provide direct patient care across assigned units in accordance with the nursing process and hospital policies. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care for patients in diverse clinical settings. Administer medications, monitor vital signs, and perform procedures appropriate to each unit’s scope of care. Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition, initiating appropriate interventions. Collaborate with physicians, interdisciplinary team members, and ancillary staff to deliver safe, evidence-based care. Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record. 2. Adaptability & Flexibility: Float between the ED, Medical-Surgical, ICU, and Step-Down units based on hospital staffing needs. Quickly acclimate to varying patient populations, workflows, and unit cultures. Prioritize care in fast-paced and changing environments. Demonstrate clinical judgment and critical thinking suitable for high-acuity settings. 3. Collaboration & Communication: Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team. Provide patient and family education related to care, medications, and discharge instructions. Serve as a positive role model and resource to peers, supporting teamwork and collaboration across departments. 4. Quality & Safety: Adhere to infection prevention, safety, and regulatory standards. Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives. Escalate concerns or potential safety issues appropriately and promptly. Qualifications Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required: Uses common sense and special medical skills to care for the sick Understands technical information from supervisors, charts, reference books, manuals and labels Uses eyes, ears, hands and fingers with skill Acts quickly in an emergency, rendering appropriate life-saving measures Communicates with people Change from one duty to another frequently Follow and/or give precise instructions Records and interprets information accurately Able to care for patients of all ages Current in BLS. ACLS within 6 months of hire. Reasoning, Mathematical and Language Development are indicative of the general level of development required to do this job. Things: Manual dexterity: Use of body members or special devices to work, and perform functions pertinent to accomplishment of job assignment. Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Possesses a nursing license in good standing in the State of Alabama. Experience: A minimum of 2 years in acute care nursing required. Experience in emergency and/or critical care preferred.
