About The Position

The RN Vascular Access Team is an RN-based unit providing 24-hour services across inpatient and outpatient areas of the hospital. This includes the insertion of peripheral IVs, midlines, and PICCs (peripherally inserted central catheters), with recommendations for the most appropriate access based on patient assessment. Additional responsibilities involve dressing changes, line troubleshooting, and surveillance. The team also educates staff on selecting the right line for the right patient at the right time. Nurses, operating under the ANA scope of practice, apply the nursing process to deliver professional nursing care, emphasizing patient-family centered principles. They provide quality patient care under the guidance of a Nurse Leader, adhering to Corewell Health's policies and procedures. The role involves assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and addressing discharge needs for patients and their families, incorporating their input into the care plan. Nurses are expected to competently perform technical procedures, use equipment properly, and maintain timely, accurate, and concise patient records. They also develop and document teaching strategies for patients and families.

Requirements

  • Associates in Nursing Required
  • Bachelors in Nursing Required within 5 years
  • External candidates are required to have a minimum of 2 years of related acute care experience.
  • External candidate must successfully complete a competency assessment provided by nursing education required
  • Internal candidates with less than 2 years of clinical experience must be approved by their current nurse leader and the site Chief Nursing Officer.
  • MI Registered Nurse (RN) Required
  • AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required upon hire

Responsibilities

  • Provide 24 hour services throughout the inpatient and outpatient areas of the hospital.
  • Perform peripheral IV, midline and PICC (peripherally inserted central catheter) insertion.
  • Recommend the most appropriate access based on patient assessment.
  • Perform dressing changes.
  • Perform line troubleshooting and surveillance.
  • Educate staff on the RIGHT LINE for the RIGHT PATIENT at the RIGHT TIME.
  • Utilize the framework of the nursing process to provide professional nursing care by incorporating patient-family centered care principles.
  • Provide quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader according to Corewell Health's policies and procedures.
  • Apply the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and discharge needs of patient/family/significant other.
  • Partner with and utilize patient/family input and goals in planning plan of care.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and competently perform technical procedures and use equipment properly.
  • Document in the patient record in a timely, accurate and concise manner.
  • Develop teaching strategies for patient/family; document education and learning appropriately in health record.
