About The Position

HCA HealthONE Presbyterian St. Lukes is seeking an RN Vascular Access IV Therapist PRN to join our healthcare family. Our nurses are celebrated for being on the front line, empathetic for patients. The Vascular Access Team (VAT) RN applies advanced knowledge of the vascular system, vascular access devices (VADs), and VAD insertion techniques to establish intravenous access for pediatric and adult patients. The VAT RN critically assesses each patient's medical history, present health status, and proposed course of treatment to ensure the appropriate VAD is selected. The VAT RN utilizes expert-level vascular ultrasound/sonography skills and aseptic or sterile techniques to insert VADs at the bedside or in procedural areas. The VAT RN is responsible for VAD-related core measures affecting quality, patient safety, and reimbursement, including Central Line Associated Bloodstream Infections (CLABSIs).

Requirements

  • Current licensure in the State of Colorado as a Registered Nurse.
  • BLS - Healthcare provider certification required.
  • ACLS and PALS within 3 months of hire.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred.
  • Two years bedside clinical RN experience required.
  • Two years VAT RN experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrate advanced clinical knowledge and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Proficiency in ultrasound guided vascular access techniques within 6 months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ultrasound is preferred.
  • Completion of VAD insertion competencies as per organization policies prior to independent insertion.

Responsibilities

  • Critically assess each patient's medical history and present health status.
  • Collaborate with ordering providers to clarify vascular access needs.
  • Perform physical examinations of insertion sites.
  • Utilize expert-level vascular ultrasound/sonography skills for VAD insertion.
  • Monitor patient's electrocardiograph readings during advanced line insertions.
  • Select appropriate imaging methods to verify tip placement.
  • Provide consultation services for malfunctioning VADs.
  • Document all insertion and troubleshooting activities per organizational policies.
  • Enter charges in the hospital's documentation system for billing.
  • Collaborate with Infection Prevention for event analysis and corrective actions related to CLABSIs.
