The RN Unit Manager is responsible for the overall nursing care/service on his/her shift, including the accurate and timely administration of medications, treatments, documentation and emergency calls, as indicated. The role involves supervising direct care of residents and nursing personnel, administering direct care as necessary, giving and receiving shift reports, rounding twice a shift to assure proper care is rendered in a safe and clean environment, keeping physicians and families aware of changes in resident’s condition, assisting in developing comprehensive care plans, maintaining accurate documentation of all care rendered, responding to resident emergency call system, interfacing with other disciplines to assure continuity of care and services, accompanying physicians when making rounds, encouraging restorative care in order to obtain maximum resident independence, participating in family/resident counseling as necessary, assisting with the orientation and evaluation of nursing personnel, attending in-service training and education sessions, assuring proper functioning of equipment and adequate supplies, and performing specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
