The position involves answering patient inquiries over the telephone, assessing the severity of the patient's symptoms and medical needs according to triage algorithms. The role guides the patient to the appropriate level of care, schedules patient appointments over the phone with appropriate healthcare providers/facilities/physicians, and documents information provided to patients during triage in health record systems. Additionally, it involves maintaining and developing triage protocols and ensuring patients' healthcare information is updated on time. The role also answers inquiries through multiple variations of technology, depending on the department, and educates patients based on calls that come in.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree in nursing preferred.
  • One year of healthcare experience preferred.
  • Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where the practice of nursing is occurring.
  • Possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state.
  • Complete all requirements to obtain license needed for role within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Obtain and maintain required department specific competencies and certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Answer patient inquiries over the telephone, assessing the severity of the patient's symptoms and medical needs according to triage algorithms.
