About The Position

A registered professional nurse employed on the Trauma Stepdown Unit (TSDU) of Erlanger Health System is responsible for direct and indirect care of patients with a variety of traumatic or surgical related conditions, including but not limited to fractures, head injuries, blunt and penetrating trauma, extended surgical recovery. The RN on the Trauma Stepdown Unit must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide comprehensive direct and/or indirect care of patients with a variety of traumatic or surgical related conditions, including but not limited to fractures, head injuries, blunt and penetrating trauma, gunshot/stabbing, MVC or extended surgical recovery. The registered nurse must be able to assess and monitor patients pre- and post-procedure, as well as administer medications and assist with bedside procedures under the direction of EHS physicians. The RN must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age and acuity of the patients served on the Trauma Stepdown Unit. Patients located on TSDU have a higher acuity level than a general Med Surg floor requiring a 4:1 ratio. He/she must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status. The employee must interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures manual.

Requirements

  • Graduate from accredited School of Nursing
  • Annual Erlanger Health System EOL and Elsevier courses
  • Knowledge of general nursing principles and practice skills
  • Knowledge of organizational functions, policies, and regulations
  • Knowledge of current trends and new developments
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of nursing, applicable to those areas requiring special education
  • Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Tennessee
  • BLS and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification completed prior to going to unit/department and to be maintained going forward
  • Tennessee licensure or multistate licensure from a compact state must be obtained within three months of hire for non-Tennessee residents.
