About The Position

The primary role of the Trauma Registrar-RN is medical record data extrapolation and maintenance of the Trauma Registry. This position utilizes expertise in computer data entry to maintain an accurate database that is utilized for performance improvement activities. Assists with performance improvement activities, information requests, quality improvement studies and research projects as requested. Frequently exercises independent judgment and discretion within agreed upon limitations. Supports an organizational culture for Service Excellence and practices the Service Excellence standards with all customer groups. PROVISION OF SERVICES/CARE STANDARDS This position utilizes expertise in computer data entry to maintain an accurate database that is utilized for performance improvement activities. Assists with performance improvement activities, information requests, quality improvement studies and research projects as requested. Frequently exercises independent judgment and discretion within agreed upon limitations. Demonstrates proficiency in data collection and analysis. Meets regularly with the Trauma Program Director/Manager. Facilitates and participates in education of staff regarding trauma care. Collaborates with other members of the healthcare team in order to implement and promote improvement in patient outcomes. Requirements

  • RN currently licensed by the State of Texas
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical experience
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical and trauma terminology, statistics and fundamentals of medicine and medical law in order to analyze statistical data, audit trauma codes, perform chart reviews and identify quality issues
  • TNCC, ENPC within 12 months of hire or as soon as class availability permits (Each course is required to be taken twice without lapse in expiration of certification)
  • Proficient in computer skills, Microsoft applications and presentations
  • Completion of injury scaling course (AAAM/AIS Injury Scaling and/or equivalent) approved by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) within 12 months of employment or as class availability permits, per Trauma Coordinator discretion
  • Completion of Trauma and Acute Care Foundation (TETAF) Hospital Data Management Course within 12 months of employment
  • Completion of ICD-10 Trauma Injury Coding Course within 12 months of employment
