The 5A Telemetry Observation Unit at Allegheny General Hospital is a specialized 38 bed unit focused on providing rapid assessment, treatment, and monitoring for patients with acute medical conditions. The unit features private rooms and primarily serves patients presenting with chest pain, transient ischemic attacks (TIAs), and trauma. It operates as a Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) or Observation Unit, providing a bridge between the Emergency Department and inpatient care. The position is responsible and accountable for a designated patient population, providing care based on the nursing process, demonstrating clinical assessment and care planning skills, and ensuring safe and effective care according to regulatory requirements. The role involves collaboration with a multidisciplinary team for the plan of care from admission through discharge, as well as assessing learning needs of patients and families and providing education based on age, culture, and willingness to learn.
